How to Stay Positive in This Job Market?
I live in Steamboat Springs Colorado. It is a small town that thrives on tourism. Listening to the media, newspapers and friends it is really hard to stay positive in this job market. How to do it?
I believe that in this tough time it is hard to stay positive. I find myself constantly worried about my job. Sitting on the edge of my seat at work. Any of you share that same feeling? Well if you do than you know what I am talking about. It is not easy to listen to the news or talk to co workers without wanting to run to the bathroom and shed a few tears. I know I have. What I try to do is think about all the good things. I have a yellow lab that is four years old, I have a new husband that it very supportive and understands the squeeze that we are all feeling. I try to spend more time with them and try to turn off the TV when it gets to negative. I watch the highlights to stay involved but I don’t let it consume me. You shouldn’t either.
When you are down try and take yourself out of your normal routine. Meet new people, read a good novel, read the funnies in the paper. If you are really feeling desperate check out the self help section in Barnes and Noble. Don’t buy the book, but find one of there big comfy chairs and read about uplifting stories that allow you to feel good inside. For those with kids, take more time to listen to them, play more board games, go to the playground. Chat with your college kids a little bit longer on the phone, even if you are the one paying for the call. Be involved as much as you can, your kids will one day thank you for it. It is now more than ever that we need each other. If you have a loved one that is over sees and you miss him or her terribly, right a letter to him or her, put your feelings on paper even if you never send it or he or she never gets it, you at least got some relief as to how you were feeling. Wars wern’t won by one person, there was one leader who guided the whole team to victory. Stick together and you will see results.
