Inspirtation in Times of Depression

This article tells of what things are like for others in myself in my part of the world. Its a view of what I know and have experienced myself and how I view others when they react to the way things are.

Before I left for basic training back in February 2009, things in the state of Mississippi were the same as they had been since I’d been living there, which has been my whole life. There are few if not any opportunities at times and I personally found myself working  two jobs and quiting college prior to my joining the military but that’s another story. The purpose of this article is to let people know that “Its not just you”.

When I returned to Mississippi I was excited and expected to find something different than what I left. Oh yeah…I found things different only they were a lot worse than when I left. (Talk about Irony) So there I was fresh out of AIT (Advance individual training). One would think that having just returned home from training I would’ve wanted to rest but the answer was no. I knew that I needed a job and wasn’t willing to wait. And so I immediately began my search.

The first place I went to was, of course, the unemployment office. On that specific day an new program was introduced. Instead of speaking with workers about jobs everything was to be done on line and interviews would be chosen as so. Everyone knows that nothing outside of face to face conversation or hands on activities is guaranteed and so to me and no doubtingly to others, the change made job searching seem a little more frustrating and hopeless. A prime example, that very day that I was there they were having problems with the network and in order to get on one had to call the customer service and wait a minimum of twenty minutes before they could receive a new password to open their employer/employee profile. I know this for a fact because I had to do so myself. I even witness one individual get frustrated and storm out of the building.

The pressure of everyday life, for those who wish to procced and succed in life that is, has gotten worse and even though some may claim and feel that they have it worse than others, theres always someone somewhere that suffers and struggles more. One shouldn’t focus on what things are but what they can and will be once the needed work is put in. If a person allows him or herself to be mentally defeated they have only themselves to blame. Its important to have someone supporting you, a partner, parent or close friend but their support is meaningless unless the person him or herself is returning the effort.

For those who feel beat down by today’s society. If you got someone supporting you and urging you on its for a reason. They see something you don’t see in yourself…perhaps something you’ve forgotten or think you’ve lost. Nothing is ever lost, just forgotten or pushed aside by ones self or their surrounding. Take a nice long look in the mirror and remember that YOU ARE NOT a part of your surroundings. My method is to go with and ride the tide rather than go against it or be drowned by it. By that I mean, if you’re doing all you can do and nothings working out for you, take pride in yourself and don’t give up. Keep working towards it and keep tomorrow in mind rather than the hardships of today. Inspiration in a time of depression comes from within and is strengthened by those around you. This has been a quick glance into the lives of others, brought to you by a voice from the south.
