Job Experience and Me
About the affects of not having enough job experience.
Is it just me or when you leave school are you supposed to have job experience. I think not. I mean I completed my work experience, two weeks in fact. But when you apply to nearly all jobs today you need five plus years experience. I want to know one thing, how are you meant to get this experience?
When I left school I thought my GCSE results would speak for themselves to potential employers. I had an A in English, perfect ill become a writer. So I applied for writing jobs and I’m still applying. Then it hit me, why would a employer hire somebody who had no experience but an A in English, or somebody who had ten years experience and no qualification. Just because I had this grade didn’t qualify me to perform the job. My friend the other week applied to a large bank, it said no experience needed as training will be given. My friend went for a interview only to be told by somebody that he didn’t have enough experience in the job role. My friend pointed out that the job description said “NO EXPERIENCE NECCESARY.” this to the interviewer was a joke, and then started to ask my friend questions that could only be answered by somebody who knew the job role. My friend said that he couldn’t answer the questions to find the interviewer laughing at him. My friend pointed out that the job description also said “FULL TRAINING WILL BE OFFERED.” This was another joke to the interviewer. My friend told me what he said to the man but I don’t think that it is suitable for this article.
If this is the attitude that people have to the young, then what will the young think when their conducting an interview in ten years time. Big corporations should have positions where the applicant can learn the job, and earn a wage. Just like an apprenticeship but in the office. Young people today need help on finding not a job, a career.
