Jobs I Really Don’t Want to Hear About

The Cable Guy.

For me one of the most painful things in life is the fact that I have to count on someone else to service the utilities at my home. There are many reasons for this and I am going to go through a few of them. In fact some of these reasons have actually made me contemplate living without the luxury of water, cable, telephone, power and even heat. I am not joking either. If I did not have children I would probably move to the wilderness and attempt to learn how to live off of the land just to avoid these awkward and severely painful moments.

Today we are going to talk about the cable guy or for some people the cable, internet and phone guy. It all begins with the five hour timeslot they give you to wait for them. Like I don’t have anything going on in my life except for receiving entertainment services from some company that is going to charge me more for one month than the pay I missed for the day at work. So I wait for four hours and forty five minutes until they finally show. I mean seriously we are talking about a company that deals in the most advanced technology on the planet and we can’t even narrow down the simple concept of time? I am baffled about why it can’t be a two hour window I will even take three, please?

Now that they have shown up at their leisure they come into your home and the first thing they ask is “what are we doing for you today”. Seriously, are you seriously asking me this? Why did I spend two hours on the phone listening to the sales pitch for every one of your seven hundred channels? Obviously you did not research your work order during the five hour break you were just on. I mean you had three weeks and five hours to prepare for this appointment and you’re going to ask the client what the hell you’re doing. I am usually a little frustrated at this point. Guess that’s my problem though. So I tell him what services I asked for only for him to call the company and verify that is what I am getting. By the way they do not have a direct line to the company either. I am giddy with anticipation of what comes next.
