Looking for a Second Job?
The second, part-time jobs you may not have even considered.
Part-Time Mail Carrier – The US Postal Service has “rural routes”. These routes are located out in the country of your area and frequently have part-time positions available. Rural route drivers are typically required to use their own vehicles, but can get a mileage reimbursement from the postal service or, at the very least, write off the mileage and gas expenditures for the year come tax time. Save your receipts and possibly get a stamp from your boss verifying the mileage and gas was used for your job.
Starbucks – That pesky tip jar that stares up at you can now be your friend. Starbucks is everywhere, has a decent hourly wage and you get to split the tips on your shift. (People tend to use the “beer tipping rule” on coffee as well. 50 cents per cup. Cha-Ching!)I hear of folks making out money-wise there. Make it a weekend part-time job. Although you may LOVE your weekends off, you will get used to working Saturday mornings and the extra cash in hand. The full-timers want atleast one weekend day off and this can be your chance to swoop!
Triond, of course – You have considered this one.
Sign up for PayPal, Ebay and Half.com, Textbookwheel.com – You already have PayPal if you are a writer on Triond, but sign up for selling on Ebay and Half.com. Gather your garage sale goods. It takes a bit of time to set up your pages and ship everything but if you add it up, it’s worth it by the end of the month. A little spending cash. Remember to give good deals on your Ebay stuff. It irks me when I will pay $3.00 less than in the store. Why would I buy from a no-name if I’m can get secure payment with a big box store? I have used Half.com for books in the past with little luck. I am not sure if they have other items you can sell there, so check it out. For my textbooks, The best place to go is Textbookwheel.com for buyback. You will get a great deal more money from them for your expensive books than your University Bookstore. Here, you type in your ISBNs and they let you know whether or not they will take it and how much they will give you for it. Print the confirmation of how much “Cha-Ching” they are going to give you, throw it in a box with your textbooks. Tape it tight and secure and affix the free-printable label from the website. Textbookwheel.com is gold. Let your college kids know about this!
The Local Supermarket – They will have 4 hour, part-time shifts you can jump to after your 9-5. Have your availability for Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. You can keep your weekends free. You will be pulling in $80 or so per week EXTRA! Great to put away for a rainy day. You can work in a different town if you’re worried about seeing the other PTA parents or people from church. Pick a town on your path home from your 9-5.
Many folks don’t think about these options because they haven’t ever worked in these places or feel its beneath them. Money isn’t beneath anyone. Go make some extra dough!
