Migrants’ Rights AND Ofw’s Benefits Tackled in One-day Seminar in Italy
Do you know that there are already billion-worth of remittances being contributed by millions of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), aside from the contributions of several Filipino migrant workers, in the Philippine government to sustain the economy of the country? Thus, they simply deserve to be treated as true heroes of the Philippines by giving them the best services and full assistance in times of their need.

A one-day seminar concerning the “Migrants’ Rights and benefits which an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) may avail was conducted by two OFWs for their fellow thirty-eight OFW leaders and members from almost 5 Filipino community groups in Terni, Italy.
Labor Attache to Rome Chona M. Mantilla reported to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz who disclosed the two OFWs were Josefa Zayas and Alfonso Salem both conducted the above echo seminar about ‘Filipino Women’s Council Capacity Building Training as part of their commitment to their fellow OFWs after they attended the same activity earlier.
DOLE Chief Baldoz said, “This is a very laudable exercise of communal responsibility. I commend Ms. Zayas and Mr. Salem for their effort to share their knowledge with fellow OFWs.”
The two OFW trainors both imparted to the participants some tips on how to extend one’s personal network. Sig. Franco Todaro of the Immigrati CGIL also discussed the ‘Migrants Rights.’
Zayas and Salem tackled the issues concerning “Leadership and Organizing, Migrants Rights and Definition and Stages of Networking workshops.
FWC Leader–Organizer Ms. Chato Basa presented the results of the survey on Migrants Remittances while the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) team led by Mantilla discussed the programs and services of the POLO and the Philippine Embassy.
Moreover, as part of the POLO team, representatives of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Social Security System (SSS) and PAG-IBIG gave updates regarding their respective services which OFWs can avail of in time of need.
The migrant worker-leaders well appreciated the training because their rights as migrants were emphasized. They are anticipating for a follow-up or other related seminar will again be conducted in the near future.
