Do you ever go home from work or wake up in the morning thinking I don’t want to go in to work or sighing thinking about how many days before the week-end or when you are at work thinking about the week-end, well we all have, including myself. I don’t know if this is going to help you realize how luck you are or not but I am going to try. This company I was working for was a meat packaging place and in my weeks there was hell.

First let me tell you what we had to put on over our own clothing we had to put on this white shirt and white pants and a jacket over that jacket we had to put on a lab coat these plastic sleeves, plastic apron ear plugs, surgical mask and hair net. For footwear you had to put on these steel-toed boots over your sneakers.

Now I kind of understand why we had to put these things on you had to protect the customers of germs and other stuff but it took us 5 to 10 minutes every time we had break or lunch we had take every thing off and then when we returned back we had put everything back on. We had to wash our hands and sanitize our hands before and after each time you left our station and sanitize your boots.

Now there were two different kind of sides you were placed to work on the raw side or the ready to eat side now if you were working in the raw side you had to put on everything I had mentioned before in a white colour and the read to eat would be a blue colour which it didn’t really matter what colour you wore because it was all the same things you had to put on the only problem with that was when you were working in the read to eat side and they needed somebody in the raw side they would tell you then you had to walk thought this long hallway just to get to the raw side and then you would have to change everything including the colour of the (apron, sleeves………) and then you would in trouble from our supervisor why you were late, well if we didn’t have to put 10,000 things on before we wouldn’t be late.

The actual job was physically tiring. Your back would kill because you were either picking up heavy boxes and you really couldn’t pick up the right way because it was a fast paced environment or you had to stand doing the same tetis job for 8 hours a day. The people who also worked there always had a miserable look in there face especially the supervisors that would watch every move you make and always look over your shoulder.

The actual workers were nice but there were other people that would talk behind your back, pretend to be nice to you but then they wouldn’t be so nice or just talk mean to you, or if you weren’t doing something right it would feel like they wanted to bite your head off. I hated it but with the way the economy is going here I had to get whatever I could get. The only thing I really couldn’t complain was the money. But money isn’t everything I would rather have a less paying job without the headaches.
