On The Job or Not…
People always say the same thing when you are about to leave a position at what point does that same old advice not matter….you know that unsolicited piece of advice I am talking about…
I have been working at a non-profit organization for a couple of years, it is a job that requires you listen to other peoples problems all day everyday and after awhile it eats away at you, now not only do you have no time to address your own issues you have a head full of other issues. I always say but think about how you are helping the children and that will get you through each day. And it did, for about a minute…I am so stressed out my neck feels like it is made out of steel not to mention i could probably sleep for a week straight.
Well I ran it by friends, family members and co-workers, my quitting that is and every single one of them first answered, do not quit, hang in there until you find another job, my questions is when does this little bit of advice not apply, maybe once I’ve had a stroke or maybe after my second heart attack, how about I now have chronic hypertension due to stress seeing that I have been a vegetarian most of my life and abstain from high sodium and and fried foods etc. How on the way to work I spent the whole 45 minute ride on the subway thinking how I wanted to go postal on a guy sitting beside because his leg touched mine. And I mean postal.
For once I would like someone to just say quit if your not happy, just as long as you don’t render yourself homeless and can survive. If they can meet this prerequisite to quitting their job then you might try saying “do not quit hang in there until you find another job” But listen first and make sure they can survive not quitting their job…….I’m just saying
Liked it
