Park Ranger: Is It a Cool Job?
Most people like the idea of becoming a park ranger. Is it really what its cracked up to be? Read and find out!
The future holds many choices of very important things one of those is the choice of a career. One career that a person could choose is the career path of a Park Ranger. People that fancy the outdoors and teaching about the outdoors would greatly enjoy this job. Park rangers can work with nature, teach people, and even save people’s lives.
The best way to get a good chance at having the occupation is to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in something natural. Most of these degrees take four years to get. Examples of degrees a person could attempt to receive are biology or park management. Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana offers some of these classes. To have a likely chance of getting into Purdue, it is recommended that a person have an SAT score of 610 or over. On the ACT it is recommended that a person get a score of 23 on their composite, 21 on their verbal, and 23 on their math. Purdue’s acceptance rate is 85%. High school classes that help with learning about the career are nature classes such as agriculture education, biology, chemistry, business classes, sociology, and psychology. People applying for the role of a park ranger are encouraged to have volunteer jobs at parks before trying to get the job. Numerous parks have volunteer programs.
Park rangers keep nature and people safe in their parks while enforcing the law and even studying nature. A park ranger’s most important task, though, is to keep the people in the park safe. Park rangers usually have light work, though they sometimes have to do a lot of lifting. Rangers also walk and move a lot. In their parks, rangers can do many different things. They sometimes systematically scrutinize their park for air and water pollution. Park trails are usually planned and marked by rangers, too. This helps the wildlife be undisturbed. Another task that some park rangers do is give tours of their premises. Rangers also teach and give lectures about nature. Sometimes park rangers decide how to spend the park’s budget. Other times park rangers do administrative tasks. To become a park ranger a person needs to be able to perform first aid, communicate well, be able to maintain their park, and be able to work outdoors. A person should also appreciate the outdoors and know about it. Park rangers can advance to become a park manager or something else administrative.

Ok I just gotta say that although there are park rangers that do maintenence work and teach classes and such…please keep in mind that the majority of Rangers are strictly law enforcement…if you want a job working with nature, animals or being warm and fuzzy become a naturlist not a ranger….
