Public Illusions on Public Sector Working
This industry is very target driven but the public remember when if you had a job for the council, it was a job for life. Completely untrue picture of the hard work that is done in Local Authorities.
The illuson of many that Public sector workers, walk around all day talking and drinking tea. How wrong they are! It used to be said that if you had a job in the public sector you had a job for life. How wrong they are again.
The public sector is driven by budgets and target figures just like any other organisation and every year everyone is told how tight money is.
From my experience public sector workers work extremely hard, sometimes over and above the call of duty without any additional overtime pay. Councils are very customer focused and as soon as anyone complains, staff jump through the hoops to appease the complainant to stop the complaint going to the ombudsman.
Members of the public can be threatening, abusive and very rude and never consider the person they are yelling at. Most times, selfish and very self-centred and demand their way.
We as the general public must remember before we go down the route of abusive behaviour that the people we want to help us are exactly that, people trying to help, someones wife, husband etc, trying to do a good days work.
Society would be a much better place if we all remembered our manners!
