Recipe for Success

A handbook to avoid silly mistakes in finding work and work habits.

The first thing we must do when entering the workforce after high school is to decide which industry we desire to work in and that we are best suited for.  A person who wishes to work in an office environment should prepare a resume and talk to a temporary placement agency as these are great ways to get a foot in the door and they are always looking for smart, young talent.  To enable this course a person should know how to type, alphabetize, and use Excel (c) or other spreadsheet software.  One should study how to set up the spreadsheets themselves including labeling rows and columns and using formulas to calculate data within the spreadsheet.  Temporary placement services are available for other industries too and are a good way to find work.

Not everybody recommends going through a temporary placement agency but it is good to be aware of them as they can be extremely helpful.  The busier temporary agencies are often better because they have more jobs available to them.  Robert Half International runs two good ones which are OfficeTeam (c) and Accountemps (c)  Then there is Adecco (c), Kelly Services (c), Manpower (c), and many more.

People may not realize one helpful thing when working with a temporary placement agency and that is that if they have been on an assignment for a long enough period of time or have developed a solid work record and they are let go they can file for unemployment.  The requirements to receiving unemployment include the following.  One must not have quit a job, refused work, etc., and must be actively looking for work.  In this way unemployment insurance can act like a safety net in an otherwise capitalistic and profit oriented society.  People should take advantage of the tools and programs that are available to them.  That is what they are there for and there is no stigma to it.

People should not let norms and cultural expectations affect their emotional well being.  Society has developed to where it is now over 1000s of years.  We cannot expect it to change overnight but we can recognize its flaws and weaknesses and not allow its misconceptions and false principles to place inaccurate value judgements on our character and nature.  One thing people might want to do to improve their lives is to go without a television.  This will increase focus in daily activities and free up a lot of time for other more productive and helpful things.  It also gets rid of a lot of background noise.  Television promotes false realities and expectations that are unhealthy and unnatural.  People should not let norms and cultural expectations affect their emotional well being.
