Rush Hour
A busy day in the life of a helicopter mechanic.

The day isn’t yet through for me. At 1530H who would better guess a dismal day that would take a twist and end up not quite as expected? I was back to my lazy antics waiting for a Petron gas truck to fulfill the last responsibility of refilling the 24% fuel loss indicated at the helicopter’s fuel gauge. Fulfilling the gas-up afterwards at the absence of spillage unlike in my previous tasks, I was amused to realize I’m slowly getting away with my clumsy instincts. I signed the delivery receipt from the truck driver with the indicated 129 liters used up in the flight. I made a deep breathe of relief with scent of Jet A-1 mixed with the afternoon breeze. 129 liters was what it costed me to come up with a story for the day. 129 liters not letters and if there will still be a point to ask, it was just a feel of the rush; a series of events that crowded itself in the last 50 minutes of my boring life.

Yes, I’m pretty lucky to get out of the country and brought out that story years back from my journal. I have lost lots of colleagues in flying and have sorts of crosswind landings that nearly knocked me down. Thanks for the comments, fortunately I only learned to write a blog when I resigned and felt closer to my countrymen now that I’m far out of the country.

I have never been in a helicopter – too afraid of heights, would have to be one with a door and some dont have them, Glad there are people who can do this kind of a job.

Quite the opposite. A very colorful life indeed, as well as life threatening. Even though people view pilots as controlled, educated and well trained experts, I’ve always thought , they had to be a bit crazy to fly an engined bird, with all due respect , of course, good crazy, for sure, and a necessity to save lives. Your command of the language is impeccable and your humor mixed with such a serious scenario is in great taste. Fine work, an edge of your seat ride and great read. Love your humor. Good One. Deep!
