Security Abuse

Security is an issue in the province but because of several issues and they do not all have to do with undesirable people. People working in government offices know that their document need to be protected from the average citizen because they may contain secret and personal information. People who work at entertainment centers can appreciate the protocol when it comes to getting the public seated for a show and when the public has to be directed to a specific exit during an emergency. The point I want to make is th abuse of security measures especially when it disrupts a normal working routine.

Such was the case when I had to teach a government employee at a center and was not permitted to get to the classroom because I did not have a permit to enter. The issuing of a permit would have been fine had that occurred on the first day of working there but when I came in the second day and had to go through a lengthy waiting period for the security people to come to an agreement about how to get me to the classroom, that I started to feel terribly uncomfortable. They had also mentioned that since the person I wanted to teach was on the fifth floor and could not be reached I had to wait but there was more.

I was told that they were not able to locate him which I find hard to believe because these people always have a means of communication on them.They would not allow me access to any floor on the e=second day even though one of the security people knew me from th first day and could have accompanied me to the office at the start of the issue. Instead he had decided to congregate with four or more colleagues to decide what to do. I was an external agent and had to be dealt with the maximum care. I was a language there to impart my knowledge so that someone could be exempted from a language test and get his job transfer. In the end I got accompanied to the room but in the interim i had to hear that security was this man’s concern not mine and I found that very rude since I was not contesting his ability to play safe.

In the end I have to the conclusion that when you give power to somebody they can carry it to the nth degree.
