Shifting Focus on The Job
How to make a boring job more interesting. How to turn a mundane, dead end job, into a fantasy.
Is your job boring? Do you long for a different life? Do you wish you could have more adventure and excitement in your life? Your boring job could become a tool to attract the kind of life you desire. Beyond your wage being saved and invested for the future your job can become an attractant for a better life.
A lot has been written about The Law of Attraction in recent years. Many people have achieved the life of their choosing by applying it within their lives. This law states that “whatever you think about comes about”. Some people have an easier time of focusing their thoughts toward their wishes than others. At times people get stuck in mundane jobs, and because of the nature of their jobs, it makes it difficult for them to even dream of a better life. I contend that if you simply shift your focus on a daily basis before going to even the most menial of jobs, you can begin to use that job as an attractant for something better.
I actually became aware of this subtle technique before I read about The Law of Attraction. I was going through a rough patch in my life and had to seek employment with Labor Ready, a day labor company. One of my assignments was at a landfill, picking up plastic bags so that they did not find their way onto the highway and on some driver’s windshield. Myself, and couple of other men, from Labor Ready were walking around on mucky hills in rubber boots with spiked sticks picking up plastic bags. Our little band became close for the three weeks of this assignment. We all were getting along very well and formed a bond. We begin to enjoy doing this job. We were out in the open air in what was quite a mild Autumn.

One day one of us made the comment “This is like a nature hike.”. Another said “Yeah, adventure travel companies charge people five grand to do basically the same thing.” We all begin to shift focus in our minds that we were not really at this landfill, instead that we were all on an adventure holiday together. Because of this, we developed a very happy inner attitude. The supervisors at the facility loved our attitude and treated us very well. Even to the point of giving us nice dinner before our assignment was up.

Now if I could just persuade my feet at the end of the day that they didn’t hurt…

Mark, I think you are onto something. We might as well make the job as pleasent as we can and who knows what will come from the experience. A very good idea.

Great attitude. You should read Napoleon Hills Law of Success, if you haven’t already.
