Ten Recession Proof Jobs: Start Now
Generate income from what your already know while you are job hunting.
The media networks, TV, newspapers, radios are constantly talking about people losing their jobs and homes. Everywhere you find desperation, frustration, and hopelessness due to these losses. People are getting depressed for valid reasons. The families are breaking apart, and hopelessness and despair are trickling down to our children. Everyone is feeling the pinch, and after effects of bad economic decisons. The President is trying to do everything that he and his advisers can think of in order to revive this economy. However that is going to involve a series of steps and a few months to a year. Until then remember adversity is the mother of invention.Dear fellow Americans- don’t forget that we can do ANYTHING? We cannot quit in despair and hopelessness. We are the not the quitters; we are the doers. I have a few suggestions to get you going: But remember first that no job is small. I was told once by a very smart/ wise school superintendent “remember that if you are too big for a small job then you are too small for a big job”. This is not time for false ego or pride- it is time for staying afloat and rising above. Here are a few jobs to start with:
1) Painter: Can you paint? If I can run roll a roller. anyone can do it. Ask you neighbors, friends, if anyone needs their house, their fence painted. Give them a fair price and get started. You may ask them for referrals, or print some flyer’s and send them door to door. Advertise in the penny saver, church bulletin boards, grocery stores, etc. Ask your kids for help in distributing flyers.
2) Spring cleaning/ gardening: Ask if anyone needs help with cleaning their house or yards, plant bulbs in their garden, mulch their lawns, cut grass.
3) House cleaning: Many men can clean better then women. We all have to clean our homes. How about cleaning someone else’s for money every week or bi-weekly?
4) Plumber/ electrician: have you ever fixed a pipe, or faucet in your house? can you do it for someone for money (a little cheaper then a regular plumber). How about fixing light bulbs, or garbage disposal? Advertise your strengths and sell your services slightly cheaper while still starting out.
5) Food: Can you cook? Have a favorite dish or dishes? Many Americans do not have the time to cook and they also do not have too much money to spend. They run to fast foods for a quick bite. Most of the fast foods are hazardous to health. Advertise low calorie, healthy foods to your neighbors, friends, church etc. See if they are willing to buy. Remember Healthy Sutton diet, meals on wheels started small.
6) Babysitter: Ask if anyone needs help with baby sitting their children.
7) Adult Care/ sitter: How about working people who need sitters for their elderly parents with Alzheimer or other disabilities?
Shopping: Everyone has to shop for something? Can you drive? How about grocery shopping, or running errands for people in your neighborhood or farther?
9) Pet care : Do you like dogs? There are people who are willing to pay you for walking their dog, or taking them to the vet, or just spend time with their pet while they are gone.
10) Tutor: Can you help kids with their homework? How about tutor math, science, english? Help with SAT/ACT preparation. Advertise that you can tutor kids in gropus or individually. Tutor them at the library, at school, church, or in their house. It pays handsomely, but start with low fees. You may even get a reputation and make it a full time career at some point in time. For now start low.
My best wishes are with you all. Don’t forget to say your daily prayer. My parents told me “In good times say Thank You and be grateful; In hard times be gracious, maintain faith and don’t lose hope; Always Pray”.
