The Bad Day and Four Ways to Fix It
We’ve all had bad days but what we do at the end counts more than what happened to us. Try these four ways to fix a bad day.
I had a bad day again. It started out innocently enough. I over slept. My husband could not find his pants to wear to work and turns out I never put the load of clothes in the dryer. He walked out in damp pants and I was left with a grumpy two year old in the middle of a bed transition.
The day looked up a bit for the time in which the coffee brewed and my first sip was like Heaven. Then my son jumped in my lap and spilled coffee all over the two of us. A struggle ensued over getting him in clean clothes and then finding time for me to change clothes. I fed the horses and mucked their stalls.
By my son’s nap time I was exhausted and I curled into a ball to go to sleep. Then, I hear hoof beats. Outside my window. Not good. I open my eyes just in time to see my mare Windy galloping past my window. She decided she would break the fence. Thankfully, no one was hurt and Windy was good as well. So, I got her all settled with her sister and fixed the fence as best I could until my husband could come home from work to corral our son while I redid the fence.
While cooking dinner that night, I opened the oven door to look at my roast and noticed there was no liquid in the bottom of the pan. Like a complete moron, I poured cold water into a hot glass pan. It exploded with a loud bang which scared my son into a screaming fit. While juggling a tearful and terrified two year old, I made spaghetti.
I know many people who have it so much worse than I do or even have had the day that I have. So because of this thought I decided to explain the number of ways we can acknowledge our bad day and tell it to take a hike!
Relax. The easiest way to do this is to walk away. Find a nice quiet place that can help to calm you. If you can be calm with your significant other, drag them along too. For better or worse, baby. Once you’re there, concentrate on your heart beat and the breaths you take. Pretty soon you’ll feel relaxed enough to think about your day without reaching for a bottle of Jack Daniels.
