Production workers, in an ideal company set up are involved in tasks that are described as physically and mentally challenging. Production workers are the “life-breathers” of the company. They carry out the most essential function of a company operation. No organization would prevail in the market if it does not have goods and services to offer. The worker who are mandated to provide the goods and services for sale are referred to as the production workers. They may be machine operators, machine attendants, engineers, computer technologists, or even cleaners in the work place. Their jobs are characterized by physical and mental concentration.
Due to the fact that the workers are subjected to physical and mental exhaustion, there is a need for these employees to be granted more time to rest. Often, these employees are required to remain in their work positions for a long time and in some cases they are available for the whole shift. This implies that they have their lunch just by the work position. They tend to be physically and mentally incapacitated and the results is an increased stress level. In fact, if their mode of working is not checked, they can become stressed to the level of being unable to perform.
A change is as good as a rest! And this saying is most appropriately applicable when handling the issue of production worker. Leave alone the issue of having more time for lunch, these workers should have a lunch break. This is because this makes then to have a change of position from their work area. Just by strolling around, they are able to recuperate from fatigue and tiredness.
Being in the same position for a long time usually affects the body’s blood circulation and this can impair the functioning of the body systems such as the endocrine and circulation systems. When they have a lunch break, they get the opportunity to “refuel”. This implies that they get something to eat and have the energy to carry on with their duties. But the issue is not getting something to eat, there is the subject of fatigue and mental tiredness.
In order to rejuvenate and get more energy reserves, the employees are required to have sufficient time to rest. The time that is available for lunch in most organizations is 1 hour. However, this is a standard time that has been set by the World Labor Organization (WLO) in agreement with the business organizations platform. There is a need for organizations to realize that some of the set standards may not apply well in their business set ups. Today researcher have ascertained that having a siesta after lunch is very important as it significantly enhances the workers ability to perform better in the better part of the shift.
