The Body and The Mind: Why Production Workers Need More Time for Lunch

Production workers, in an ideal company set up are involved in tasks that are described as physically and mentally challenging. Production workers are the "life-breathers" of the company. They carry out the most essential function of a company operation.

Companies should provide more lunch time for its workers so that they can have a physical and mental rest that leaves them refreshed, energized and rejuvenated for the jobs they undertake. This does not mean that the company should give 2 hours as a lunch break. No! A simple 15 minutes extra time for the perceived lunch duration can make a big difference. If production workers can get an extra 15 to 20 minutes for their lunch break and use this time to have a nap and siesta, this can greatly improve their productivity.

When the body is feed, it needs time for the body system to prepare for the digestion process. This implies that getting into work immediately interferes with the body’s ability to digest and absorb the food. The most important part is that a longer break would create a mental rest and this reduces the stress levels. It also promotes the revitalization in the sense that the worker is able to regain more energy to do the job.

Companies that have discovered and embraced this phenomenon are now getting more results than they used to. The secret to production is how much an employee can produce is a particular time frame. This is the rate at which the employee is able to achieve a particular target. It is a function of time and it has a direct correlation with the  energy level and the mental alertness of the worker.

By having more rest, great energy reserves are created which can instantly improve the rate of performance. Consequently, rest brings about mental “freshness” and the employee can have a constant concentration in the task being performed. In industry terms, it increases the efficiency of the employee. For optimum results in the least possible time, the body must regain enough energy and reduce any stress.
