There are some tips to help bosses and employees in managing workplace stress.

1. Morning exercise

In traditional Japanese work culture, the bosses and employees do morning exercise together. The exercises include stretching and other non-strenuous exercises.

This is a good start to a working day. Even if your company does not practice morning exercise, you can spend a few minutes to do some exercises before you set off for work or at your workstation.

2. Set priorities

Fear of failure is a cause of stress. You need to set priorities, so that you can accomplish the most urgent tasks.

Even if you have 1001 tasks to do, not all are of the same urgency.

When you set priorities and set the pace for the working day, you are learning the trick of managing workplace stress.

3. Reduce opportunities for open door policy

Even if you operate on an open door policy, you need to close the door occasionally.

You should not allow your employees to disturb you when you are working on a mentally draining work. This is the time you need full concentration. You do not need your employees to break your thoughts every ten minutes.

You can set aside an hour in the morning, and an hour in the afternoon for your employees to talk to you.

You need to learn to get rid of paper clutter. There are certain papers that you can throw away. There are more papers that you can file away.

As long as you keep your table clear of paper clutter, you can feel confidence about dealing with massive workload.

The same concept applies to emails. If you have 500 incoming emails every day, you will find it hard to work on other tasks.

You can delete many emails without reading them. These are often jokes and offers forwarded to you by your colleagues.

Managing workplace stress is a technique of managing volume of paper and emails.

As long as you have control over the way you work, you will find that you are managing workplace stress very well.

6. Exercise after work

You can go for a run or an hour in the gym after work. That is the time for you to exercise away your work stress.

Exercising produces a sense of happiness and satisfaction that you cannot find elsewhere.

You will see that those who exercise regularly are better at managing workplace stress.
