Top Ten Things You Need to Do When You Lose Your Job

by nikiderro in Work, April 18, 2009

Don’t give up or just lie around the mope. If you take control of your life, you’ll get the result.

Many people changed careers only to become more successful. This is part of life. It’s how you BOUNCE BACK from this challenge. We then transformed our lives by developing a framework on how we can find opportunities and act on them even in tough economic conditions. These are the top ten things you need to do when you lose your job or if you think you’ll be losing your job.

  • Don’t panic – you’re just one of many who have lost their jobs.
  • Talk to close friends and family – get it out of your chest, you’ll feel angry and betrayed. Get it over and done with.
  • If you need help – ask for it – don’t let pride get in the way.
  • Know what you’re good at and what people are willing to pay you money for.
  • Family comes first – make sure you have enough money to last you and your family 6 months with no cash inflow. If you don’t have, make sure you get it quick.
  • Decide on your next steps – Job or entrepreneurship? Do both!
  • Pump yourself with positivity after you’ve gone through the grief.
  • Understand cause and effect – Dom something!!! God helps those who help themselves, don’t just sit there and die.
  • Don’t work alone – network as hard as you can – the harder you work, the more people you meet – the luckier you get!
  • Don’t allow yourself any self pity or make up stories on how unlucky you are – star doing and don’t give up until you make at least another 6 months worth of cash flow.
