What is Your Special Talent?
What talents do you have? Did anybody ever told you that you have writing talent, as an example?
What talents do you have? Did anybody ever told you that you have writing talent, as an example?
I remember that in the early years of school, the teacher was telling to some of us that we are talented at some classes of study.I was usually envying them, and the word ‘talent’ was having something magic in it.It was clear to me that being talented means to being different from the others, better, even superior in a particular matter. The teacher told me that I have some special talent for painting.I haven’t practiced and I haven’t find a proper teacher for me, so my talent has been forgotten.
It is said that talent is an innate gift. And yet, what for some talents remain unrevealed? I realized that my talent was noticed by people, because I was a kid, I was not aware of certain values and skills for some fields of activity.I knew which of my class mates were talented at drawing, because their draws were exposed on a board in the school yard.I also knew which were those that were talented at writing, because their texts were published in the school magazine.Obviously, those talented in sports were members of a sports club … and so on.These were some of the talents discovered by teachers and people that who worked with us closely.
It is said that each of us has talent, meaning a special skill, a gift that we are born with, a chance given to us, the chance of being better than the others in a certain field. The big challenge is to follow and take the best from that talent. The great actress Ingrid Bergman said that talent and passion are the necessary elements in achieving success … So, if you have a talent for something and you want to have success, you also need passion.
Some of our talents are discovered by others. The fact is that if you have a talent and you don’t know how to value it, how to develop it, you can miss a great career. It is said that a good doctor is a good doctor, but a talented doctor is an excellent doctor, as the exploited talent brings excellence in any field of activity.miss a great career. And now I wonder what would have been if I have taken painting classes and if I have had a good teacher?I have stuck with this question:how talented I actually was? Maybe it was just an impression, perhaps in truth it was. Now, the only question left is ”what would have been if …?’
The truly lucky ones have more talents, and if the career choice is based on one of them, they are even more fortunate. The managers of important companies are running and fighting one with the other for the talents in certain areas. There are many texts that teach managers how to retain talents in their companies, because talent is a gift not offered to anyone, and when you have such a gift, you must know how to make the best of it.
How important is talent in a successful career?
Opinions are divided. Some say that the talented one can be defeated by the ambitious one, or that talent becomes unimportant if there aren’t made the necessary efforts for accomplish your plans.
It is said that it is never too late to develop your talents and skills. So, if you remember that you had a talent for something, you can start now to work and develop your talent. For example, a lady from the United States has won The National Book Awards, at 73 years old, after she graduated to Stanford University at 67 years old.(http://www.stanfordalumni.org/news/magazine/1997/novdec/articles/doerr.html)
And I should start preparing myself for some painting classes…
