Why Do I Have to Grow Up?
Being a kid is work. You’re learning, growing and becoming – while just trying to be. Maybe Plain Gerlaine can help you understand what this growth is all about.
Hey kid, it is normal to not want to grow up. We adults call this “Peter Pan” syndrome. The truth is that one day (if you’re totally healthy) your body will grow and become adult sized. Once your body grows to be full grown, people will expect you to take care of yourself and have your own children (Ewww, nasty! I know!).

It may not feel like it now, but one day you will desire to take care of yourself or be taken care of by someone other than your mother and father. You will want to have a career. What do you want to be when you grow up? – will no longer be just a question. It will be real.
You will want to rent apartments, buy cars, and travel around the world by yourself. Hawaii will be more than the 50th United State that is not connected to the rest of the continent. It will be next summers vacation.
You do not have to grow up, but there is a downside to not growing up. People who take care of you get to tell you what to do all the time. You never really get to be your own person. Growing up is good. Maybe you get to be the boss and tell other people what to do.
So give it a try. Do more stuff for yourself. Do good in school. Learn how to do things without mommy and daddy. Growing up will happen whether you want it to or not. If you just give it a try, you might like it. More Love.
